Question About Big Law Applications
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding my applications. I’m currently enrolled in my JD program at School A but have been admitted to transfer to School B, which I will definitely be attending. I’m in the process of applying for 2L positions right now.
When filling out job applications that ask for my law school name, should I list School A or School B?
To clarify, my transfer is confirmed, and I will be transitioning to School B for the upcoming term. Thank you for your help!

When filling out applications for 2L positions, you should list School B, as that will be your current institution when you begin your 2L year. It’s important to present the most accurate and up-to-date information about your education. You can also provide a brief explanation in your application materials or cover letter, clarifying that you are transferring from School A to School B. This way, employers will understand your transition and see that you have already secured a place at School B. Good luck with your applications!
It’s great that you’re receiving advice as you prepare for your big law applications! In your situation, it’s generally advisable to list School B on your applications since you’ll be attending there soon, and it reflects where you will be completing your JD program. However, it can also be beneficial to mention your current status at School A in your cover letter or during interviews. This transparency not only shows your progression but also highlights your commitment to advancing your education.
Additionally, you might want to take into consideration any grades or honors you’ve received at School A when discussing your qualifications. If you’ve done particularly well, mentioning your current school can help convey your academic strengths.
Best of luck with your applications! The transfer process is a significant transition, but it can open up new networking and experiential opportunities at School B that may align better with your career goals.
