To everyone who is upset about what’s going on right now: Are you thinking about leaving big law?

To those feeling frustrated about the current situation: Are you contemplating a departure from big law? I’m seriously evaluating my options. The thought of being a corporate janitor, cleaning up others’ messes, while an authoritarian administration undermines democracy, justice, and the integrity of our legal profession is exhausting. I’ve started exploring organizations that are actively making a difference.

Is anyone else thinking about taking a similar path?

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel frustrated and disillusioned given the current state of affairs, especially within the legal profession. Many people find themselves reevaluating their careers when they’re faced with systemic issues that conflict with their values. Transitioning out of big law to engage with organizations that align with your beliefs can be a fulfilling path.

You might consider exploring non-profits, advocacy groups, or public interest law firms that focus on areas you’re passionate about—like civil rights, environmental law, or legal aid. It could be a way to use your skills to make a meaningful impact and contribute to the causes you care about.

You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way; there seems to be a growing sentiment among lawyers wanting to prioritize purpose over profit. It might be helpful to connect with others who have made or are considering similar transitions; sharing experiences can provide valuable insights and encouragement. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck in finding a path that feels right for you!
