Rising 3L Recruitment Info

Information on 3L Recruitment

Question
Are there any websites or resources that indicate which firms recruited or hired 3Ls last year, along with the numbers?

Current Understanding
I’m aware that NALP provides this information, but it requires looking at each firm’s page individually. While this is doable, it’s not very efficient. Additionally, NALP’s comparison tool doesn’t offer all the details available on the individual firm pages.

Background
For context: I’m median-ranked in a T-14 school and I have a summer associate position lined up for this upcoming 2L summer. Attorneys I’ve spoken with have said that my reasons for considering a change in firms are “rare and justified.”

  1. You’re right that NALP is a key resource for this type of information, but as you mentioned, it can be time-consuming to sift through each firm’s page. Another option you might consider is using the American Bar Association (ABA) website, which often compiles annual employment statistics and resources relating to hiring trends.

Additionally, law school career services departments sometimes have access to aggregated data on firm hiring that they can share with students. It might be worth reaching out to them for insights specifically related to 3L recruitment.

LinkedIn can also be a useful tool. You can search firms you’re interested in and see their previous hires, as many organizations share their recruiting efforts there.

Lastly, consider checking out legal job boards like Lawjobs.com or even Above the Law, which sometimes report on hiring trends and specific firm hiring patterns. Networking with peers or alumni who are currently at firms you’re interested in might also provide informal insights into their hiring practices for 3Ls. Good luck with your upcoming summer position!
