Not admitted to practice as a second year

Subject: Not Admitted to Practice as a Second-Year

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a second-year associate at a large firm, but I’m still not officially admitted to the bar. I passed the bar exam on my first attempt, but I was late submitting my application. Now, it seems like the review process is taking forever. At what point should I start to feel concerned?

In my first year, I was significantly ahead of schedule, and I’m on track for continued success this year. I’ve also built strong relationships with my colleagues, so I’m feeling a bit frustrated about the delay, especially with that asterisk in my signature.

Any advice or insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. It’s understandable to feel anxious about your situation, especially since you worked hard to pass the bar and maintain good performance at your firm. Given your strong track record and relationships, it’s clear that you’re doing well, but the delay in your admission can definitely be frustrating.

In terms of when to start worrying, it’s a good idea to set a timeline for yourself. If you’ve already waited longer than the typical processing time for bar applications in your state (which can vary), it might be worth following up with the bar association to check on the status of your application. Additionally, consider discussing your situation with a mentor or HR at your firm; they might be able to provide insight into how common these delays are and if there’s anything more you can do to speed up the process.

In the meantime, continue to focus on your work and maintain those strong relationships. Your performance and reputation will speak for themselves, and hopefully, you’ll have that asterisk removed sooner rather than later!
