I’m out

A Fresh Start: Embracing My New Career Journey

After nearly a decade immersed in the relentless world of litigation and an extensive 10-month search for the right job, I am thrilled to share that I have accepted an offer for my dream position in-house. This opportunity is not only fully remote but also signifies a substantial shift away from my previous career path—a change for which I am profoundly grateful.

Throughout my legal career, I found myself unwittingly entrenched in litigation, despite my aversion to courtroom proceedings and the intricate process of briefing. The prospect of never having to deliver oral arguments or prepare briefs again fills me with relief and anticipation. Gone are the days of enduring panic attacks while pushing through motions for summary judgment—a reality that weighed heavily on my shoulders for too long.

The thought of a new routine that doesn’t revolve around court-imposed deadlines is incredibly liberating. Moreover, stepping away from the billing demands intrinsic to big law practice means alleviating the anxiety and depression that have been constant companions in my professional life. For these reasons and more, I am immensely thankful for this fresh opportunity.

Acknowledging the skills and experiences that my previous role afforded me and my family, I am now eagerly looking forward to handing in my notice on Monday—a significant milestone on my journey to personal fulfillment.

As for the details of my new role, I am excited to share that the offer included a $165,000 base salary, with an additional 10% annual bonus and stock options. Initially, I had requested a base salary of $170,000, and although this was initially declined, I received a call just 30 minutes later confirming the higher figure. To add to the excitement, I have been offered the position of Senior Counsel, a responsibility I hadn’t anticipated given this is my inaugural in-house role.

With this pay increase—further enhanced by a transition from part-time due to family commitments—I couldn’t be more pleased. I am set to begin this exciting new chapter in the new year, and I am full of optimism for what lies ahead.
