I was trapped in my hotel room for 6 days due to creepy men. Can I get a refund from the travel agency?

A Nightmarish Holiday: Seeking a Refund After a Disturbing Experience

Traveling is often seen as a chance to unwind and explore new places, but for some, it can turn into a distressing ordeal. Recently, I found myself in a harrowing situation that left me questioning the reliability of travel advice and the safety of solo travel for women. Here’s my story and the steps I’m considering in pursuit of a refund from the travel agency involved.

My Journey Begins

After ending a significant relationship, I decided to escape for a while and embark on a solo holiday. The travel agent suggested a picturesque spot along India’s east coast, known for its beautiful beaches, which seemed like the perfect getaway. I made my intention clear; I specifically asked if the destination was safe for a young woman traveling alone. I received repeated reassurances that it was indeed a secure place.

A Disturbing Reality

Upon my arrival, what I hoped would be a relaxing retreat quickly turned into a nightmare. On my first morning, I ventured out to enjoy the beach, only to be overwhelmed by a crowd of men ranging in age from their late teens to seniors. They surrounded me, taking photographs and filming without my consent, completely disregarding my discomfort.

Feeling unsafe, I hurried back to my hotel room, but was followed by several of these men. I locked my door, and they proceeded to knock incessantly for hours, intensifying my panic and sense of vulnerability.

Unfortunately, the situation escalated further. Each time I stepped outside—whether for food or to fetch water—I was immediately accosted. On one particularly alarming incident, something was slipped into my drink, leaving me dizzy and disoriented. I managed to return to my hotel and secure the door before losing consciousness. When I awoke, the door remained locked, but the experience left me rattled.

A Hasty Exit

What was meant to be a two-week retreat turned into a six-day ordeal trapped in my hotel room. For my safety, I booked an emergency flight home, feeling that I had no choice. In the aftermath of this distressing experience, I attempted to reach out to the travel agency that sold me the trip. Unfortunately, my emails have gone unanswered, and my phone calls have been met with dismissive hang-ups.

The Pursuit of a Refund

Given the circumstances, I find myself wondering: Do I have grounds for a refund? I trusted the travel agency
