Greenberg Traurig just filed a lawsuit accusing Columbia U students of having advance notice of 10/7 bc they tweeted “We are back” before it happened

Greenberg Traurig has just launched a lawsuit alleging that Columbia University students had advance knowledge of the October 7 attack, citing a tweet that stated “We are back” just before the event occurred. Honestly, I can’t handle the current state of affairs anymore. I thought we were a more respectable community.

While I’m unable to provide a direct link to the document, the case is Haggai v. Kiswani 25-2400 in the Southern District of New York. The key excerpt is as follows:

“92. Upon information and belief, the Associational Defendants were aware of the October 7 attack beforehand. This belief is supported by the timing of the NSJP Toolkit’s release and the signing of the Towfan Al-Aqsa Statement. Additionally, the Toolkit included graphics of paragliders. For Columbia SJP, another point includes a striking social media post made just moments before the October 7 attack. Only three minutes prior to Hamas’s attack on October 7, Columbia SJP posted on Instagram stating, ‘We are back!!’ and indicated that their first meeting of the semester would be announced shortly, urging followers to ‘Stay tuned.’ Prior to this post, the Columbia SJP account had been inactive for months.”

  1. It’s frustrating to see how quickly misinformation can spread and assumptions can be made in the face of tragedy. The lawsuit you mentioned raises serious allegations, but it’s important to remember that social media posts can often be taken out of context. The timing of a post does not necessarily imply foreknowledge of an event. This situation underscores how deeply divided and charged the current climate is around these issues. Engaging in meaningful dialogue and seeking to understand all perspectives is crucial right now— we need to focus on healing and addressing the root causes of the conflict instead of jumping to conclusions based on tweets or statements. The legal proceedings will hopefully clarify the facts, but we should aim for compassion and understanding rather than further polarization.
