It would be great if more law firms adopted this fearless stance. Elias Law Group is making it clear that they won’t back down, taking a jab at Paul Weiss in the process by stating, “there will be no negotiation . . . about the clients we represent or the lawsuits we bring on their behalf.”

WASHINGTON – On March 22, the White House released a Presidential Memorandum titled “Preventing Abuses of the Legal System and the Federal Court.”
The accompanying fact sheet claims to “hold attorneys and law firms accountable for unethical conduct when litigating against the Federal government or pursuing baseless partisan attacks,” specifically mentioning actions that could “threaten […] election integrity.”
In response, Marc Elias provided the following comments:
“President Trump is overtly working to undermine the Constitution and erode the rule of law in his relentless quest for revenge against his political adversaries. Today’s memorandum from the White House threatens not only me and my firm but every attorney and law firm willing to stand against his assaults on our legal system.
“His objective is transparent—he aims to instill fear and force lawyers to surrender, leaving few to challenge his Administration in court.
“Elias Law Group will continue to vigorously defend democracy in the courtroom. We will not enter into negotiations with this Administration regarding the clients we serve or the cases we pursue on their behalf.
“The future of our democracy hangs in the balance, and the choices made by attorneys and their firms could ultimately shape the fate of the rule of law in America.”
