Overcoming a Fear of Heights as a biglaw Attorney
For many professionals, especially those working in the towering high-rises of biglaw firms, a discomfort with heights can be a significant challenge. While some might not label it a full-blown phobia, the feeling is more akin to a deep unease—like the instability one feels when trying to stand on a single leg for too long. When I’m situated on the lofty heights of a 70th floor office, I often find myself battling a wave of dizziness and discomfort, accompanied by a profound desire to return to the reassuring solidity of the ground below.
It seems that many top-tier law firms have an affinity for office spaces perched amidst the clouds, constructed from endless expanses of steel and glass, and hovering hundreds of feet above the unyielding pavement. Despite efforts to manage this discomfort through meditation, deep-breathing exercises, or even by drawing the blinds to obscure the view, it remains an unpleasant experience for those of us who aren’t fond of heights.
If you share this sentiment, you’re not alone. Many others in the legal profession face similar struggles. Have you found effective strategies for managing these sensations while working so high above the ground? Let’s explore some possible solutions together.
