Update on My Legal Situation Regarding a Child Using My Story Without Permission
In today’s post, I want to provide a significant update on my recent experience concerning the lawsuit I faced due to a child using my story without my consent. For those unfamiliar with the situation, I found myself in the unusual position of being threatened by the family of a child who won a contest with a rather old and nonsensical tale I had penned many years ago—a whimsical narrative about a boy transforming into a griffin, the origins of which have long since escaped my memory.
First and foremost, I must express my gratitude for the insightful comments and advice shared by the Reddit community. Many of you were spot on: the so-called legal advisor turned out to be none other than the child’s uncle masquerading as a solicitor. This revelation was both astonishing and somewhat amusing, considering the seriousness of the accusations leveled against me.
Upon further investigation, I discovered that the child had a history of lifting content from the internet, and the parents seemed to hold the belief that anything available online automatically falls into the public domain. After a swift consultation with Citizens Advice, I learned the real implications of pursuing legal action. A single phone call from them revealed that the uncle became increasingly flustered, described as “blubbering like a child caught near a broken window holding a slingshot.”
The entire situation unraveled quickly after that, and I appreciate the supportive words from all who contributed to my original post. Encouraged by this experience, I have decided to rekindle my passion for writing, a pursuit I had neglected for too long. It’s a relief to reconnect with my creative side, and I eagerly look forward to crafting new stories in the near future.
Thank you once again for your support and encouragement as I navigate this unexpected chapter in my life. Stay tuned for more updates and perhaps a few new stories to share!
