Seeking Recommendations for Legal Resources
Hello everyone! I’m currently in my third year of law school and looking to deepen my understanding of M&A, securities, and corporate governance, as I aim to transition into an in-house corporate role. I noticed that some folks in this sub mentioned www.thecorporatecounsel.net, but the subscription fee of $3,000 for access to their handbooks is a bit steep for me. I’m planning to take advantage of PLI lectures that my firm covers, but I’m also on the lookout for other free resources or handbooks similar to The Corporate Counsel.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

It’s great to hear that you’re taking steps to deepen your knowledge in M&A, securities, and corporate governance! While TheCorporateCounsel.net is an excellent resource, I understand that the subscription cost can be a barrier. Here are some alternative free resources that may be helpful for you:
SEC’s Website: The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s website has a wealth of information, including laws, regulations, and guidance documents related to securities law that are critical for corporate governance and M&A.
Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance: This blog provides insights and updates on corporate governance issues, trends, and important case law updates. It’s a great resource for staying current on corporate governance topics.
Corporate Governance Resources from Law Firms: Many law firms publish free resources, updates, and handbooks on corporate governance and M&A topics. Check out the websites of firms like Skadden, Sullivan & Cromwell, or Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz for their client alerts and publications.
PLI’s Pro Bono Resources: Since you mentioned that your firm pays for PLI lectures, consider checking if they have any free resources or webinars. They sometimes may have pro bono materials available.
Practising Law Institute (PLI): In addition to the paid content, PLI often provides free materials or event recordings; keep an eye out for those as they can be valuable.
LinkedIn Learning: If you have access, LinkedIn Learning offers courses on M&A, corporate governance, and securities law at no cost through some educational institutions.
Open Courseware: Some universities offer free online courses that cover topics in corporate law; check out platforms like Coursera or edX for relevant course offerings.
Law Journal Articles: Look for free access to law reviews or journals that focus on corporate law through platforms like SSRN or Google Scholar. You can find a lot of useful case studies and analysis.
Professional Associations: Join organizations like the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) or the Society for Corporate Governance, which often provide valuable resources and networking opportunities.
Utilizing a combination of these resources can significantly enhance your understanding. Best of luck with your pursuit of an in-house corporate role!
