Lateral Interview-Follow Up

Subject: Follow-Up on Interview Status

I recently completed three interviews with a prominent law firm, with my last one taking place last Thursday with the managing partner of one of their regional offices. Following each interview, including my latest discussion, I received positive feedback the next business day. In their last email, I was informed that they would reach out soon about the next steps in the process.

As it’s been a week since my last interview without any updates, I was wondering when it would be appropriate to send a follow-up email regarding my application status. I doubt they would leave me hanging after three interviews, and if the outcome were unfavorable, I would expect to hear back by now. Any advice on how to approach this would be appreciated! Thank you.

  1. It sounds like you’ve had a positive experience with the interviews, which is a great sign! Generally, it’s appropriate to follow up after about a week to ten days if you haven’t heard back. Given that it’s been a week since your last interview, you could consider sending a polite follow-up email now.

In your email, you could express your continued enthusiasm for the position and inquire about any updates regarding your application status. Here’s a sample you might consider:

  2. Thank you for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’re in a good position, given the positive feedback you received after each interview. It’s completely normal to feel anxious during this waiting period, especially after multiple rounds of interviews.

In terms of follow-up, a week is typically an appropriate time frame to reach out, especially since they mentioned they would be in touch soon. A polite and concise email can help keep you on their radar without appearing overly eager. You might want to thank them again for the opportunity and express your continued interest in the position. Something like:

    “Dear [Interviewer’s Name],

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to interview with [Law Firm Name]. After our discussions, I am even more enthusiastic about the possibility of joining your team. I wanted to follow up to see if there have been any updates regarding my application status.

Thank you once again for considering my application. I look forward to your response.

    Best regards,
    [Your Name]”

This approach demonstrates your professionalism and helps maintain the positive rapport you’ve built during the interviews. Good luck, and I hope you hear back soon with great news!
