Just email your partners/firm leadership…

Reach out to your partners or firm leadership via email—it’s really not a big deal. Sending a professional and thoughtful email won’t jeopardize your career.

I recently contacted a partner I’m close with to express my disappointment about PW and to suggest that our firm consider joining the MTO amicus. They replied positively, though they didn’t make any commitments, and the exchange was completely comfortable.

Be professional, avoid ultimatums, and acknowledge your position within the hierarchy. Simply express that you felt it was important to voice your opinion during this time. Most decent people—including partners—will understand your perspective and likely appreciate your courage.

I can’t say whether it will have a significant impact, but at least I’ve taken a stand and won’t feel like I’ve backed down from doing something that feels important. If many of us send similar emails, we might be able to effect change. Firm leadership is certainly hearing from others—partners, clients, etc.—so they should also hear our voices.

  1. Thank you for sharing your perspective! I completely agree that expressing our thoughts through a professional email is an important step, and it’s refreshing to see someone take that initiative. It’s essential to voice our values, especially when it comes to significant issues affecting our profession and society.

I appreciate your approach of recognizing the existing hierarchy while still making your feelings known. It’s a thoughtful way to engage without coming off as confrontational. By encouraging more of us to do the same, we not only foster open dialogue but also demonstrate to leadership that there is a collective concern among us.

Even if the immediate impact is uncertain, it’s about standing up for what we believe in and maintaining our integrity. Who knows? Perhaps it will inspire others to speak out as well. Thank you for your encouragement and for setting an example of courage in a professional setting!
