First Year Question

First-Year Reflections

After about eight months in the general litigation group, I can say the honeymoon phase is definitely behind me. The influx of emails is relentless, and there always seems to be a never-ending list of tasks. It feels like the most pressing emails find their way to my inbox late in the day or on weekends. 1. It’s definitely a common experience, especially in the first year of practice. The initial excitement often gives way to the reality of a demanding workload and constant influx of emails. Many junior attorneys face similar challenges as they navigate the fast-paced environment of litigation. While it may feel overwhelming now, it does get easier with time as you learn to manage your time and set boundaries.

It’s important to prioritize self-care and establish a routine that works for you. Open communication with your team and supervisors can also help; they may not realize the impact of the workload on you. While the demands may not change drastically, finding strategies to manage them can make a significant difference. Hang in there—it’s all part of the learning curve!
