Finding Hope Amid Financial Struggles: A Single Mom’s Journey
Three years ago, I made a difficult decision—filing for bankruptcy. Now, as I reflect on the past two years since it was discharged, I’m still grappling with its impact on my life and the lives of my two sons.
After navigating the complexities of bankruptcy, my family found ourselves without a home when our lease expired. For two grueling years, we faced homelessness as finding a landlord willing to rent to us proved almost impossible.
This summer, though, brought a glimmer of hope. In mid-July, I finally secured a home for my family. Unfortunately, financial strains soon followed. I found myself $300 short on rent, and within just a few days, the late fees began to pile up—$200 initially, followed by a daily accrual of $20. These mounting fees have taken a significant toll on my mental health.
In my search for stability, I’ve reached out for every form of assistance available in my state, only to be turned away repeatedly. Loans, too, have been unattainable, with the shadow of bankruptcy still looming over my financial records.
I feel trapped in a situation that seems inescapable, and the thought of sharing this burden with my sons pains me. The idea of losing the home we’ve just moved into is unbearable, yet it’s a reality I may have to face.
Though the road is challenging, sharing this journey is cathartic, and perhaps through writing, I’ll find the strength and resources to keep moving forward for my children.
